CJR Building Expansion Event: December 14

Families and community members are invited to join Baltimore City Schools’ 21st Century Buildings Team tomorrow, Monday, December 14, for a discussion on the recommendation to move Commodore up in the Buildings Modernization Plan. We will learn about the recommendation, timeline and process to add an addition to our current building. The meeting will be held at 5:30 PM in Commodore's new Weinberg Library. Hope to see you there!

Celebrating our Student Athletes!

Commodore's athletic program continues to grow and continues to thrive. Our fall sports season just came to a close, and, although we didn't win another championship, our students and teams continued to represent our school and the Five Promises well.

  • Middle School Flag Football: CJR lost a close semifinal playoff game to AFYA, 14-8.  The team came a long way this year. Thank you to Coaches Watson and Michael for supporting the growth of our team.
  • Middle School Boys Soccer: In another tough semifinal playoff game, Commodore lost 3-1, to John Ruhrah.  In only its second year of existence, the boys continue to develop the necessary skills and teamwork necessary for success. Coaches Reed and Rennard deserve a lot of credit for their work in making Commodore a rising city power in such a short time.
  • Middle School Girls Soccer: Our girls' soccer team showed marked growth from last year and its players were consistently committed to improving. Coaches Heid and Ramos deserve acknowledgment for all their hard work.
  • Elementary Soccer: Our newest team was so big that we actually had two teams participating in the Patterson Park Elementary Soccer League! Both boys and girls from grades 2-5 participated in this sport. Coaches Casamassima and Duarte deserve a lot of credit for filling an important need and building a strong team, while also providing students with a valuable afterschool opportunity.

The fall season might be coming to a close, but we are already looking ahead to our winter sports season on the horizon, including three basketball teams, an NAL team looking to defend its city title, and a recently started debate team. Good luck, Commodore!

Happy 'SOCK'tober!

This October help someone who really needs it. Mr. Lawrence's advisory is currently collecting new pairs of socks to donate to those in need. As the seasons change and the temperature begins to drop, students at Commodore are figuring out new ways to help their community. Mr. Lawrence's 4th grade advisory will be taking donations throughout the month to help keep those in need warm this coming fall and winter. Please consider stopping by Commodore or mailing your sock donation. Happy 'SOCK'tober!

Commodore Corner and More!

The third week of school is nearly in the books, and we are very excited to share our first episode of Commodore Corner. The episode is hosted by none other than Mr. Martin and can be accessed by clicking this link. Big thanks to Mr. Ayala and his crew for putting together the first episode!

In family engagement news, Commodore just hosted a great family coffee chat with Dr. Ana Garcia-Fernandez, a BCPSS school psychologist. Her workshops with Latino families will be held on the third Friday of every month and will focus on specific strategies families can use to support their kids' academic success. Check out a photo from the event on our Facebook page here.

Next week, we are very excited to kick off our partnership with GEAR UP, a national college readiness program, with a special "pep rally" assembly on Monday at 8 AM in the auditorium. The event will feature alumni speakers, video presentations, and a certificate distribution. We will be joined by GEAR UP President and CEO Ranjit Sidhu, Dunbar High School's Marching Band, and 92 Q.

Have a great weekend. See you Monday at 7:10!
